How to Remove Gum from Clothing

how-to-remove-gum-from-clothingYuck, you've got gum all in excess of your clothes! You've chosen off as much as you can but that dreaded gum is still there. In its place of yelling and throwing a fit, why not try some method that will often remove the gum from the clothing? While not as nasty as chewing gum in the hair, chewing gum on your clothes can be an icky mess particularly if it has been through the dryer.

Fortunately, it's easy to fix this problem. But then you must think how to remove gum from clothing.

Simple steps on how to remove gum from clothing

Things you’ll need:

·    Laundry Pretreatment
·    Butter Knives
·    Laundry Detergents

Step 1: Harden the gum by resistance it with a cube of ice. You could also put the clothing item in the freezer for a few hours waiting it hardens. If you're in a rush the ice cube will work quicker.

Step 2: Scrape off what you can with a dull-bladed lard knife or another metal object without sharp edges that will rip from side to side the fabric.

Step 3: Rub the region with a pre-treatment enzyme product or liquid laundry detergent. Some claim WD-40 or cookery oil does wonders if you rub it on the chewing gum. If you go that route make sure you wash the clothing item right absent after to avoid stains.

Step 4: Launder as usual

Some scientific method on how to remove gum from clothing

Gas (Petrol Method)

1.    This is the easiest technique put some gas on the cloth where you have gum. Gas (aka "petrol") dissolve the gum.

2.    Wash the clothing, by itself, according to its normal laundering orders to remove any odor you have from the gas.

Freezing Method

1.    Fold the article so that the chewing gum faces outwards.
2.    Place this into a plastic bag, making sure the gum does not attach to the bag. If you can't figure out a way to keep the gum from stick to the bag, place the article of clothing on top of the bag.
3.    Into the freezer you go
4.    Seal the bag and put into the freezer for more than a few hours (depending on the size of the gum and the garment) until it feels frozen. If you put the cloth on top of the bag rather than in it, make sure there's sufficient room in the freezer so that the clothing isn't touching anything in there apart from the plastic bag it's sitting on.
5.    Scraping off the gum
6.    Remove from the freezer, open the bag and take out the inside. Peel the gum off the clothing as quickly as likely with an old, dull knife or a butter knife (to avoid cutting the fabric). Do not allow the gum to thaw out, as the freezing solidify it and makes it easier to scrape off. If the gum does thaw out previous to you get it all off, freeze the item of clothing again or use an ice cube (see Tips below).

Ironing Method

1.    Place the article with the gum opposite downwards onto a piece of cardboard
2.    Set an iron to average heat
3.    Iron the clothes until the gum is no longer on the article, but has been transfer to the cardboard.

Peanut Butter technique

1.    Spread peanut lard all over the gum itself. Keep in mind that the peanut butter is likely to get on the fabric and may blemish it because it's a very oily substance. In case the peanut butter does leave a stain, use a fluid stain remover to remove the oils left by the peanut butter prior to wash. Alternatively, WD-40 works astonishingly well.

2.    Scrape gently with a blunt knife, revealing as much of the gum as possible to the peanut lard, which adheres to the gum so that the gum no longer adhere to the fabric.

3.    Wait until the gum get softer and loses its sticking ability.

4.    Scrape the chewing gum off the clothing.
